Our Top Three Brush Cleansers

We all know how important it is to wash your make-up brushes regularly. If you don't you can risk breakouts, skin irritation, and even nasty infections.

Make-up brushes don't just hoard old make-up they also harbour bacteria, oil, dead skin cells and general dirt - especially brushes that have been used for cream or liquid make-up.

We recommend using luke warm water to clean your brushes, a good quality brush cleanser and make sure you let them dry lying down (if water gets into the brush handles it can cause the hairs to fall out).

Our top tip is to let them dry naturally. If you're not careful, and you use artificial heat, you risk melting synthetic bristles! (Trust us, we've done it, with a hair dryer..)

There are lots of different products on the market to help your brushes stay squeaky clean, but for us these have to be our favourites...

M.A.C Brush Cleanser £11.00

This one product will clean, disinfect and condition the brush fibers so that brushes will last longer. It is convenient to use and is specifically designed to extend the life of high quality brushes. Brush Cleanser leaves your brushes smelling fresh and clean, and helps shorten their drying time.

Clinique Makeup Brush Cleanser £13.99

It dissolves the build-up of grime, makeup and oil. Ideal for cleaning natural and synthetic brushes when you don't have time to wash them and wait for them to dry or to quickly remove light traces of makeup between applications. Just spray this purifying formula onto a tissue or directly onto brush bristles, then lightly swipe your brushes across tissue for a fabulous dose of freshness.

  1. I've used a spot cleaner from No7 before that I really loved, and have been dying to try this Mac one too! But for years I've just used my trusty hands and baby shampoo - is that bad? I have no idea!
