Everybody needs some ‘me’ time now and then. So instead of spending a whack of your hard-earned cash on that 'must-have' Tom Ford lipstick or 'essential’ new Chanel nail varnish, how about this month you indulge in some beautiful products to help calm and relax you instead? We guarantee a good chill-out will make you just as gorgeous!
This week’s wish list is very lotions and potions heavy, but sometimes it’s important for our appearance to take a back seat and for us to centre and get our heads straight instead. If you’re suffering from exam pressure, work or just plain old life stress, we’re firm believers that a spot of lavender can help make things that little bit better.
Whether you need a helping hand to get a restful nights sleep or even just to switch off for a relaxing soak in the tub, we’ve got something to help...
1. Fig + Yarrow Spring Herbal Steam - £18.00 (BUY HERE)
We recently came across this brand and now want to sample EVERYTHING in the range. But this little silver tin filled with dried blooms jumped out at us as a perfect addition to this Wish List edit, so we're starting here. Both pretty and useful, add a handful of the contents to freshly boiled water as a facial steam (to clear pores of excess oil, dirt, and bacteria; aid circulation, oxygenation and detoxification and encourage deep relaxing breathing), then strain the liquid into the tub for a beautiful bath tea. The assortment of purifying, soothing and nutritive botanicals includes lavender flowers, chrysanthemum blossoms, rose petals and nettle leaves and we simply can't wait to try it.
2. Betsy Liberty Print Eye Mask - £19.95 (BUY HERE)
We absolutely adore London's iconic department store and this Liberty Print eye mask promises to be a lovely addition to our bedtime routine. Filled with wheat grains, lavender flowers and finished with a soft velvet cotton underside, it's bound to help to encourage a blissful sleep.
3. Trilogy Hydrating Mist Toner - £17.50 (BUY HERE)
This refreshing and uplifting aromatic mist can be used to complete your cleansing routine or spritzed throughout the day to cool, hydrate and freshen the face. Beautifully scented, this double-use spray is destined to be a godsend as we get into the warmer weather.
4. The Body Shop Divine Calm Relaxing Massage Oil - £8.00 (BUY HERE)
We couldn't have a lavender-based list without a massage oil, could we? Dubbed 'relaxation in a bottle', this must-buy comes with an abundance of 5 star reviews. According to the fans, it's calming, soaks into the skin incredibly well, it isn't too heavily scented (something that has put us off numerous lavender products in the past) and aids relaxation into sleep - we're sold!
5. Aromatherapy Associates Lavender & Peppermint Bath & Shower Oil - £40.00 (BUY HERE)
Harnessing the refreshing and cleansing powers of eucalyptus, lavender, pine, tea tree and peppermint, this product can aid breathing and acts as an effective decongestant for those suffering with colds and flu. At this time of year, we also reckon it might be pretty handy for hay fever sufferers, offering a tiny bit of relief to those uncomfortable symptoms. It is on the pricy side, so we'd be inclined to use it in the odd bath as opposed to the shower, but the bottle does promise 20 uses and for something so lovely, £2.00 per use isn't outrageous.
6. Aveda Stress-Fix Pure-Fume Concentrate - £21.00 (BUY HERE)
Aveda recommends that we reach for this 7ml rollerball whenever life gets stressful. It's easy and handy to use, just apply to skin when you need a sense of calm, and let the essences of lavender, lavandin and clary sage relieve any feelings of stress. We're not sure how long this will last at TLBG HQ, but we're keen to see if this mini aromatherapy vial is an effective de-stresser.
7. Neal's Yard Lavender and Aloe Vera Deodorant - £8.00 (BUY HERE)
This one's a bit different but it's something that's most definitely worth a try. Neal's Yard's fresh-scented natural deodorant is free of preservatives and without any of those nasty aluminium salts that block pores, making it ideal for those with sensitive skin. Cleansing, organic essential oils of lavender, tea tree and ylang ylang are combined with an extract of alpine moss to prevent the growth of odour-causing bacteria. Aloe Vera is then chucked into the mix for its cooling and soothing properties. You may need to apply this more often throughout the day than conventional deodorant, but that's a small downside of going natural.
8. Kiehl's Creme de Corps Lavender Whipped Body Butter - £36.00 (BUY HERE)
If you're an avid follower of our wish lists, you'll already know that we're well and truly on the Kiehls Crème de Corps bandwagon. So it goes without saying that when there's a limited edition version of the product, we HAVE to have it. Kiehls' luxurious air-whipped body butter provides super effective hydration for up to 24 hours and now it comes with the soothing addition of lavender. Fabulous.
9. London Brush Company Lavender Goat Milk Brush Shampoo - £16.00 (BUY HERE)
This solid organic shampoo from the London Brush Company has been specially created to thoroughly cleanse and condition make-up brushes, without damaging the quality of the bristles. With the comforting scent of Lavender, the formula also contains Tea Tree, a natural and gentle anti-bacterial agent and from what we've heard, does its job very very well. We recently featured a handy tool to help with your brush cleaning exploits - click here to view!
10. Origins Calm To Your Senses Lavender & Vanilla Body Cleanser - £19.00 (BUY HERE)
Lavender + vanilla + coconut oil = a heavenly cleansing experience. Comforting, relaxing and cleansing all at once, this luxurious product from Origins' Calm Your Senses range sounds like a dream.
11. L'Occitane Lavender Foaming Bath - £20.00 (BUY HERE)
Loved by Marie Claire for its ability to create a haven of calm at home, not only does this product have relaxing and soothing properties, it also effectively softens and cleans the skin. You only need a small amount to create a bath full of bubbles with delicately perfumed water - just add a glass of wine, a couple of candles and a great book for the ultimate soak.
12. This Works Sleep Plus+ Pillow Spray - £25.00 (BUY HERE)
When things get stressful or we suffer from anxiety, the first thing to be affected is usually our sleep. When a relaxing lavender oil massage doesn't quite do the trick (see above), we need something else in our sleep kit to help us drift off. This Works Sleep Plus+ Pillow Spray is Clinically proven to provide a better night's sleep, so could be just the thing we're missing. The natural remedy is effective in helping to restore a healthy sleep pattern, which let's be honest, we all need some help with at times.
